3D Africa COVID-19 Designathon

Designathon Program from 3D Africa

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) is upending lives around the world—equally in developed and developing countries. Knowing that the worst is yet to come, experts are bracing for potentially devastating impacts throughout the African continent.

One thing Africa has going for it in the face of COVID-19 is its youthful population, with the median age under 20. Only three percent of sub-Saharan Africa’s population is older than 60. The 3D Africa COVID-19 Designathon is calling young people on the continent, designers and enthusiasts to contribute by using technology to design a simple product that can be used to fight this deadly pandemic.

3D Africa is a program of Youth for Technology Foundation (YTF) program. 3D Africa is upskilling a generation young makers who are using disruptive technologies to create solutions to problems in their communities. 3D Africa students learn Human Centered Design, software programming, hardware engineering, Computer-Aided Design while developing innovative, user-centric products to move the continent from “aid to Africa” to “made in Africa”.
